From present to past to present to past...

I was planning to finish writing about the whole Zanzibits history before the start of the training, but as you have read, history cought up! That is the way of the world, I guess. I would, however, like to take the time to make a short summary of all things not yet mentioned, for my own peace of mind and for future reference...

Finding the Building
Finding a suitable building for the Zanzibits Center turned out to be harder than I thought. I have, in the past seven months, with the help of some good people in Stone Town, visited about 30 different buildings and locations all over the stone town area... In the end of the day Amin brought us to an appartment, which was suitable enough, so we decided to take it. My first choice, however, was another building, just around the corner from where we are now, but when the owners heard we were going to start a multimedia college, they rejected us. One can only think of why...

Lunch organised by the Embassy
During the time of the Busara Music Festival, Hester, of the Dutch Embassy of Dar es Salaam, was visionary enough to have a lunch organised, in honour of Zanzibits and some general networking. She reserved a table @ a great little restaurant called Beyt al Chai, where ten of us came together for a meeting-lunch. People were present from all sectors of the NGO and Arts world, ranging from ZIFF board members, artists, gallery owners, long time Zanzibar residents and media experts... A great success, and the spinoff is, to this day, paying off still (you guys know who you are). Thanks, Hester.

More to come soon...
