The Week of 9th – 13th June 2008 - The end of course 2

This week was a short week: it was the end of course 2 (the second 1 month course) and the students had to go for a short break before they continue with the 3rd course. Also, in their off days they had some presentations to prepare, as, of course, you must know that our students always have something to prepare or to work on :-))

Just before the break, though, we invited the student's parents to the school on the 11th June 2008.

This because most of the parents had no idea what Zanzibits is all about, and what their children do or learn, as the course we are giving is new to the island of Zanzibar. At 11:00 am they started arriving and we gave them a brief introduction of the staff and the school (Zanzibits NGO). Then every student presented their work in front of all the people present, and the parents were very happy and surprised with what they saw.

After, the parents had lunch with their children (we organised a very big bowl of Pilau rice with Nyama ya N'gombe). Then got the chance to meet the Founder of the Zanzibits NGO (Guy Mullens), the administrator (Hashil El-Hamdan) and the trainer (Rukia Abdallah). This is when they asked questions about Zanzibits and were very grateful for what was happening to their children. Guy did his best to speech in Kiswahili, which still needs some polishing, to say the least :-))

On that same day, our Film teacher May Catarina of Zanzikids arrived from the Netherlands. She is in Zanzibar to teach our the kids about film, but she is also responsable for the showing of the Zanzikids project at the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF), which will be held from the 12th till the 20th of June 2008.

May is in Zanzibits to train the student's basic Film knowledge and they will help her with her projects on the Zanzikids. Her classes will start on the 23rd of June 2008.

All the Zanzibits family welcome May in Zanzibar and say KARIBU SANA!!!
