The first month of class in a nutshell

Hereunder you will find an overview of the first month of 2009. These are all parts of the daily reports I get from Salama and Mbarak, our trainees. I have changed some of the language here and there, but mostly I have kept the text in its original state; isn’t it amazing how their English is coming along :)

• Rukia and Salama came in the class to make a summery of what they were going to teach today. Salama asked them about the lessons of yesterday and the hand out that Rukia gave to them if they have a question, some of them they have a question because they claim that there are some words that they don’t understand, but the trainer fixed it and continued on their today’s lessons. Also before the lesson start as usually first is worm up game, where by the today worm up is zipzap and Salama lead the game. Then Rukia came and asked if they were ok before continue with their lesson for today. It was a good class actually. And good day also.
  
  
• I was within the class with Rukia for the lesson and installing typing master to all computers. In the afternoon I was helping the student on a typing master, preparing the handout and evaluation form .
  
  
• We stared with warm up game, and then we discussed about hand out and home work of a previous day, home work was about music shop research and hand out was about (software and hardware) and (files and folders). Then we started our lesson of today and it was a key board. Rukia has shown them all keys of a key board together with its functions once when Rukia finished showing them the keys, she left an assignment to them through e-learning and also asked me to install typing master program in all computers. So that they can practice more.
  
  
• After breaking, in the afternoon I came back to the class and I gave them an assignment to do through typing master, it was difficult to them because it was a first day for them to work through it.
  
  
• Before they left we gave them an evaluation forms and handout together with home work Salama was finishing the movers 2 because she found out that there are some which have not been through, when Rukia divided the movers for uploading.
  
  
• Today Rukia and Salama continue with new lesson for the students, but as usually starting with warm-up up game and discuss about the home work of yesterday, and all students say it was ok, then they continue with the lesson which is introduction to Microsoft word and its uses, then they went for lunch, when they coming back, students make exercise of to day’s lesson which is to write application letter. Before they went home they fill the evaluation forms and also they were given home work for tomorrow. But there only 13 students, two students were missing to day, without inform any members of zanzibits stuff, even their fellow students. Too bad for them.
  
  
• Rukia and Salama start on Photoshop program (basic of Photoshop) where by students start to explained about the evaluation and then Rukia showed them the tools of Photoshop and its uses, then she gave them an exercise which is to make national flag of Tanzania.
  
  
• Rukia explain the kids about digital camera and its uses also and salama showed the students how to use it, after that they asked the students to took the camera and find the good setting for their picture. Suleiman accompanied them when they were out, since Hashil took one camera on his trip to Nairobi, so students used one camera and they decided to divide into two group which is girls and boys, students where happy in this lesson because they were free to take the picture that they like.
  
  
• Salama went in the class to taught the new topic (email), she explained the meaning of email, its uses, and how to use it. Also she asked them if any of them have already use emails, and some of them were already use but the rest were not used that. This make them so hard for them to understand at the first time, so Salama show them more example how to signup and create their own account.
  
  
• Rukia and Mbarak were in the class for Microsoft excel class but before that Mbarak started with warm up game then asking the student about the home work for the last lesson together with helping them with hand out then Rukia started the lesson (MICROSOFT EXCEL) then we have given them an assignment to do. Afternoon we came to the class for helping them if they need it. Then we have given them the evaluation forms and handout.
  
  
• Rukia and Mbarak were in the class for the lesson 7 but before that Mbarak started with warm up game (about me, about you) then asked the student about the home work (coming with a business card) together with helping them with hand out for the last lesson, then Rukia explained to them what business card is, types of business card, the standard size of a business card. Then Mbarak kept on with the lesson by showing them the way of designing the business card through Photoshop. Then they took a break for lunch.
  
  
• Actually it was quit difficult for them because ZANZIBITS is a first place for them to learn the program like Photoshop, they really amazed when Mbarak showing them the way of making business card, but they tried their level best and understood it. And they were happy with ZANZIBITS lunch.
  
  
• Rukia and Mbarak were in the class for lesson 9 but before that Mbarak started with warm up game (my name is) then asked the student about the home work (coming with their sketch of poster) together with helping them with hand out for the last lesson, then Rukia explained to them what poster is, size of a business card, then Mbarak kept on with the lesson by showing them the way of designing the posters through Photoshop. Then they took a break for lunch.
  
  
• Rukia and Mbarak were in the class for lesson 11 but before that Mbarak started with warm up game (singing) then asked the student about the home work together with helping them with hand out for the last lesson, then Rukia explained to them what internet is, surfing, browsing and downloading by using Google search engine, then Mbarak kept on with the lesson by showing them other features. After that they took a break for lunch.
  
  
• Morning Rukia salama and Mbarak went in the class and start with warm-up game where by students gets the chance to choose the game and they select one of the game which is to show free style of each students, it was so funny because even Rukia salama and Mbarak they showed their free style :)After the warm up they continued with the lesson which is (getting online using browser) and Rukia show them how to go online and search deferent things using internet. And then Rukia leave students to make a practice.
